On 11 November 2021, the Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs-Conseils1 ("中的应用") launched its first 中的应用 气候变化的宪章 (the "气候变化的宪章"),2 a transformative call to action for the global engineering community to decarbonise in support of the climate change goals agreed at the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2021 ("COP26").3 The 气候变化的宪章 recognises the key strategic role that engineering industry stakeholders have, 无论是集体还是个彩票软件, in ensuring the world tackles climate change 和 achieves net zero by 2050.4

(3) support climate change adaptation through mitigation 和 design of disaster or event resilience infrastructure.6

联合国项目事务厅(”UNOP") estimates that the infrastructure industry is responsible for 79 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, with such emissions originating from the various stages of the lifecycle of a project.12 Tackling emissions will depend upon in-depth industry knowledge of the systems that are to be provided 和 the context in which they will operate. 中的应用作为全球代表机构的作用, representing over one million engineering professionals 和 40,全球000家企业,13 puts 中的应用 in a unique position to influence the key stakeholders in the engineering industry to consciously 和 collectively use their knowledge 和 expertise to mitigate 和 eliminate their impact on the planet.

What the 气候变化的宪章 seeks to achieve is bold 和 ambitious 和 the alignment of climate change commitments 和 goals for the global engineering industry is a welcome development. The 气候变化的宪章 adopts a segmented approach 和 rightly recognises that each of the key industry stakeholders has a different role to play in delivering on climate change commitments. 例如, engineering 和 consulting companies are encouraged to develop 和 promulgate policies 和 corporate objectives that promote a climate responsible approach to business 和 projects,14 whilst individual professional engineers are encouraged to audit personal behaviours 和 thinking on climate change 和 to work to integrate climate considerations into project processes, 彩票软件大全和解决方案.15 在实践中, 然而, it is nevertheless anticipated that there may be some disparity across the industry vis-à-vis how the 气候变化的宪章 will be valued 和 interpreted by the various industry stakeholders 和 how the 气候变化的宪章 will be received in different cultural contexts around the world.
